HIV/AIDS is one of the major killers of the world today

HIV/AIDS is one of the major killers of the world today – that’s why students at Father Lacombe High School are working to spread the awareness of the Millennium Development Project and the goal of combating preventable and treatable diseases to their community.

Since December 1st is International AIDS day, the high school is holding an AIDS Awareness Week starting that day. From December 1st to 5th, Father Lacombe will be covering issues that have to do with AIDS and its effect on the world around.

In order to kick things off with a bang, they’ve already started collecting funds by selling Halloween-o-grams (Halloween Candy Grams). Each Halloween-o-gram contains a fact about AIDS written on the bottom. This is to spread the awareness of AIDS before the actual AIDS Awareness Week occurs.

As a follow-up to this event for the month of November, the Simon’s Legacy Committee that runs all AIDS awareness campaigns in the school will continue collecting donations to fund this event. Simon’s Legacy was created in honour of Simon Atem, who was one of the lost boys of Sudan. His project, Simon’s Project, was such a huge success that after he graduated, Father Lacombe High School decided to extend it.

During the duration of this Aids Awareness Week, the school will be fundraising and campaigning for the relief of AIDS in Africa. The purpose is to get the students involved with the project and stand up towards a collective goal. The profit from this week will be
